How do I know which filter to use in my system?
Size is the first thing to determine when shopping air filters. You can determine the height and width by taking your current air filter out and measuring the largest outside dimension (length), then measure the next largest dimension (width), followed by the maximum depth. All should be measured to the nearest 1/16”.
After you’ve determined size, think about what kind of environment your air filter will have to process. Do you smoke, have kids or pets, or do you suffer from indoor/outdoor allergies? All of these internal air components will effect what type of air filter you buy. Luckily, the filter industry has many options that will fit your exact needs.
How often should I change my furnace air filter?
How often should I have my system serviced?
Twice per year. By servicing your system once in the fall and again in the spring, you ensure all systems are “go” before heavy use occurs. It will bring you piece of mind, and help keep costs down associated with repairs that occur when prevention is not taken proactively.
What are the benefits of having my equipment serviced?
Your air conditioning and heating system needs routine maintenance to keep it running its best, just like your car. Just like your car your heating and cooling system is a major investment. Without regular servicing, heating and cooling systems waste energy and are more likely to break down. With annual maintenance, you can prevent costly repairs and experience worry-free comfort for years to come.
What size of a furnace or air conditioner do I really need for my home?
A properly sized system is very important. A system that is too big for your home will cool or heat your house quickly, but you probably won’t feel as comfortable as you wish. In the case of air conditioning, the thermostat sensed the desired temperature before the system could get the humidity out of the air. You feel sticky and humid and your house is susceptible to moisture and mold issues.
A system that is too small never can keep up and will never cycle off. This greatly increases your energy bills and substantially reduces the life of your system. A properly sized system isn’t just based on square feet of your home. Many factors go into determining the size of the system including thickness of the walls, number and size of windows, thickness of insulation, basement and attic use, house orientation, and many other details. A Maeser Home Comfort Consultant will take detailed measurements of your home and scientifically determine the correct sized system that should be installed. We will fit your home with the most efficient system for years of comfort and reliability.
Why should I consider upgrading my heating and air system to a high efficiency equipment?
As much as half of the energy used in your home goes to heating and cooling. Energy usage represents a large cost to many home and business owners. Depending on the size of your building, and the manufacturing date and type of equipment, you might be able to save a significant amount annually by upgrading to high-efficiency equipment.
